Bucs Add CBHS Forward

MEMPHIS-Christian Brothers University basketball coach Mike Nienaber announces the signing of Christian Brothers High School forward Jacob Lyons to a National Letter of Intent.

Lyons averaged 16.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for Coach Bubba Luckett at CBHS this season, shooting 48 percent from three-point range. For his career, he scored 833 points with 353 rebounds, averaging 12.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He set school records with his 69 percent field goal percentage as a senior, and his 65 percent field goal percentage also set a CBHS career record. A First Team All-State selection as a senior, he was a Mr. Basketball finalist after leading the Purple Wave to a 25-4 record and a West Region championship. He was a two-time First Team All-Region selection and named to the Commercial Appeal Best of Preps All-Metro team twice.

"Jacob was our number one target of inside players," Nienaber said. "I think he has a chance to be an All-Conference kind of player in our system. He is a perfect fit because he can step out and shoot the three, he plays around the basket with aggression and passion. He rebounds, battles on defense. I think he's a perfect fit for our style and our system."

Lyons is the latest in a long pipeline of CBHS basketball players coming to CBU. Cody Garbuzinski and Charlie Oswald represented CBHS on this season's roster, leading the Bucs to their fifth NCAA Tournament in the last 10 years.

"Historically, the good thing about CBHS kids is that they're good team-oriented players. They've been taught well and they really fit what we do both on the court and in school. They understand that team comes first, they learn their role and they give you everything we ask of them. That's a tribute to Coach Luckett and his staff, the job they do year in and year out."
