AUSTIN, Texas – Christian Brothers University senior track and field team standout
Chelsea Walker has been named Third Team Academic All-American on Wednesday, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced.
The 2020-21 Academic All-America® Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes track and field honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA. After recently earning a spot on the All-District 5 Team, Walker, who has a 3.74 GPA in Business Administration, was one of just 45 NCAA Division II women's track and field student-athletes on the teams.
Walker earned a combined four NCAA All-American (two indoor, two outdoor) honors during the 2020-21 seasons. The York, England native is the first Academic All-American selection in CBU Track and Field history, and is also the lone representative from the Gulf South Conference this season. Walker also became the first competitor in GSC history to win four events at the GSC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She joins women's basketball player Brynne Lytle, who was also an Academic All-American selection this year and is the eighth selection in the history of CBU athletics.
To be eligible for Academic All-District and All-America distinction, nominees must have reached at least sophomore academic standing and have a 3.30 GPA or higher to go along with legitimate on-court contributions.
