Bre Lewis enters her fourth season as head coach of the Christian Brothers University volleyball team. Lewis started her career at CBU in 2020, after six years of college coaching and a highly-decorated playing career that saw her named a 2011 NCAA Division II AVCA First Team All-American.
Â
Prior to coming to CBU, Lewis spent four seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Pittsburg State University (Kan.), working primarily with blocking and hitting. At Pitt State, Lewis was vital in the progression of the volleyball program, turning a 2-27 record in 2015 to a 18-13 record in 2018. During her tenure, the Gorillas had eight players named All-MIAA, including a pair of second-team selections.Â
Â
Before coaching at Pitt State, Lewis spent two seasons serving as a graduate assistant coach at Texas Woman’s University, working with middle blockers and right-side hitters. The Pioneers reached new heights with the help of Lewis, as TWU went 42-18 during her tenure. Lewis was also an instrumental part of coaching Elizabeth Pennington and Hillary Shaffer, who were both AVCA Honorable-Mention All-American selections.
During her time at TWU, Lewis also served as head coach for the North Point Volleyball Club (Denton, Texas). Before her college coaching career, the Topeka, Kan., native spent two seasons as the assistant varsity volleyball coach at her alma mater, Seaman High School.
Â
After receiving a medical redshirt her freshman season at Texas A&M University, Lewis transferred to Washburn University (Topeka, Kan.).
Â
During her four seasons as a member of the Lady Bods, Washburn went 127-17, being selected for the NCAA Tournament each season. During her junior and senior campaigns, Lewis and the Lady Bods advanced to the South Central Regional Final. Along with being named a 2011 NCAA Division II AVCA First Team All-American as a right-side hitter, she also earned AVCA All-Region honors three times, Daktronics All-Region honors three times and All-MIAA honors three times. She also received MIAA Scholar Athlete honors three times and was named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll all four years.
Â
On October 1, 2022, Lewis was inducted into the Washburn Athletics Hall of Fame, and she still sits top 10 in Lady Bods history for hitting percentage and is in the 1000 kills club.
Â
Lewis graduated cum laude from Washburn in 2012 with bachelor’s degrees in history and anthropology. She earned her master's degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in coaching from Texas Woman's in December of 2015.
