Final Stats
Cleveland, MS - The Christian Brothers University Lady Buccaneer basketball team went into the locker room at halftime tied with 15th ranked Delta State tonight, but lost 43-32 to the Lady Statesmen in a great defensive affair.
CBU (9-7, 2-4 GSC) scored just six points in the first ten minutes of the half, as the score was 8-6 at the ten-minute media timeout. The score would be 16 all at the half.
DSU (16-1, 5-1 GSC) won its fifth game in a row. The Lady Statesmen started the second half on a 21-5 run and had a 37-23 lead with 4:27 remaining.
The Lady Bucs cut the lead to eight, but couldn't get any closer.
Crystal Shelton led CBU with 12 points. Ponecia Anderson had six points, while Kristen Kirkland and Kelli Gross each had five.
The Lady Bucs kept the rebounding deficit close, trailing by just one at game's end, but more physical play from Delta and 22-10 in turnovers spelled defeat for CBU.
The Lady Bucs will be back on the road this Thursday, January 26 when they travel to Arkansas-Monticello for a 5 p.m. start.
