Turnovers Hurt Lady Bucs In 62-51 Loss At Arkansas-Monticello

Monticello, AR - The Christian Brothers University Lady Buccaneer basketball team fell victim to 27 turnovers and dropped a crucial Gulf South Conference game tonight at Arkansas-Monticello, losing 62-51.

CBU (9-8, 2-5 GSC) capped off a 9-0 run at the nine-minute mark of the first half with a jumper from Crystal Shelton. The Lady Bucs led 18-9 at that point. However, UAM used a 15-1 run of its own to close the half and CBU went into the locker room, trailing 24-19 at the half.

UAM (8-9, 3-4 GSC) continued its streaky play and went on a 12-3 run to take a 36-22 lead at 14:34 of the second half.

The Lady Bucs cut the lead to 41-35 at 11 minute mark, but just one minute later it was 45-35, UAM. CBU cut the lead to eight twice in the half, but couldn't get any closer.

Shelton scored 18 and pulled down six boards to lead the Lady Bucs. Ponecia Anderson scored 12 points, all in the second half, and pulled down six rebounds. Michelle Steele had nine points and six rebounds, while Erin Nigh had a game-high eight rebounds.

UAM was led in scoring from Jenna Thomas with 14 points. Abra Motley scored 13 off the bench and Gemma Gibson picked up 12 in a spot start.

The Lady Bucs will be back in action this Saturday, January 28 when they play host to Southern Arkansas for Homecoming at 2 p.m. in Canale Arena.
