Lady Bucs Drop GSC West Finale

Final Stats

MONTICELLO, Ark.--Katherine Taju pounded 29 kills to pace Arkansas-Monticello to a 3-1 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Friday night in the Gulf South Conference West Division finale for both schools.

With the win, Arkansas-Monticello (16-14, 6-6 GSC West) clinches the final berth in the GSC Tournament, which will be held next weekend at GSC East champion North Alabama.

Senior Laura Washington (Seattle, Wash./Garfield HS) led the Lady Bucs (14-15, 3-9) with 17 kills and a .567 hitting percentage.  Senior Krista Gyarmati (Phoenix, Ariz./Shadow Mountain HS) was the only other Lady Buc in double figures with 12.  Senior setter Lauren Amundson (Stanwood, Wash./Stanwood HS) had 43 assists and a match-best 16 digs.  Gyarmati added 15 digs, while sophomore Jenna Cherry (Covington, La./Covington HS) added 14.

Taju's 29 kills paced three players in double figures for the Cotton Blossoms.  Amanda Sayre had 20 kills, while Kameshia Melton added 13.  Maegan Martin had 64 assists.  Sayre and Amie Kronk had a team-high 15 digs each, and Taju had 12.

The Lady Bucs will finish their season Tuesday night against Lyon at Canale Arena. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
