Lions Top Lady Bucs 62-52

FLORENCE, Ala.--North Alabama forced 23 turnovers as they defeated the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 62-52 Tuesday night in Florence, Ala.

The Lions (2-2) never trailed. The teams traded baskets early before a 9-0 UNA run stretched their lead to 13-4, and the Lady Bucs never came closer than three points again.

Sophomore Kat Butler (Nashville, Tenn./Brentwood HS) scored a career-high 15 points for the Lady Bucs (1-1), leading three CBU players in double figures. Sophomore Erin Nigh (Morristown, Ind./Morristown HS) scored 12, while sophomore Crystal Shelton (Nashville, Tenn./Hume-Fogg HS) added 11.

Amber Rutherford led UNA with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Jameica York scored 10.

Neither team shot well as UNA was just 20-of-56 (35.7 percent) from the floor, while the Lady Bucs were 20-of-51 (39.2 percent). UNA made seven threes to CBU's four, and the Lions were 15-of-22 (68.2 percent) at the charity stripe, while CBU made eight of 10 free throws.

The Lady Bucs will visit Southern Indiana Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. CBU's home opener is set for Wednesday night, Nov. 29, against Rhodes at 5:30 p.m.
