Searcy, AR - The Christian Brothers University Lady Buccaneer basketball team fell behind early and couldn't re-gain the lead, falling on the road at Harding University tonight, 69-58.
CBU (10-14, 3-10 GSC) jumped out to a 6-2 lead on a layup from Mary Shea Hackett. The Lady Bison took a one-point advantage at the 14 minute mark of the first half after a jumper from Chelsea Simpson, but the Lady Bucs re-took the lead on a layup from Ponecia Anderson three minutes later.
The game was tied again at 16 on a layup from Kristen Kirkland with seven minutes left in the first half, but on the next possession, Harding's Catherine McMenamy hit a three giving the Lady Bison a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
HU (11-13, 3-10 GSC) had 11 points at the half from McMenamy. The Lady Bison held the lead for most of the second half and had a 49-40 advantage at the ten minute mark after a jumper from Simpson.
CBU, however, went on a 9-0 run over the next three minutes capped off by a free throw from Kristen Kirkland to tie the game at 49. Harding kept a slim lead for the final six minutes before breaking it open in the final minute of play.
The Lady Bucs were led in scoring by Hackett with 13 points and seven rebounds. Ponecia Anderson had 11 points and eight boards, while Jessica Plunkett came off the bench and had 10 points and five rebounds in 13 minutes of play. Kirkland had nine points, while Kelli Gross finished with seven assists and six rebounds.
CBU will be back in action this Monday, February 20 when they play host to 11th ranked Delta State at 5:30 p.m. in Canale Arena.
