McKenzie, TN - The Christian Brothers University Lady Buccaneer softball team split a double-header today at Bethel College. CBU won game one 4-1, but lost the nightcap 4-3 in eight innings.
CBU (5-5) got another impressive start from freshman hurler Nikki Dunn. Dunn went all seven picking up her fifth complete game, while striking out 12 and allowing no earned runs.
Sammy Maness went 2-3 with an RBI, while Jenny Bernard, Tia Shores, Meagan Shackleford, and Dunn all had a hit apiece. Dunn drove in two to help her cause.
Kallie McFatter started game two for CBU and held Bethel scoreless through four innings, but gave up two runs in the fourth before Dunn came in to relieve. McFatter allowed just two earned runs and four hits.
CBU scored two runs in the third, while Bethel scored two in the fourth and the game was tied going into the eighth inning. The Lady Bucs scored a run in their half of the eighth when Meagan Shackleford scored Paula Cerrito on a fielder's choice.
Bethel, would answer, however, as Lacy Jones doubled home two runs giving the Lady Wildcats the win.
Bernard and Hannah Shackelford each had two hits for the Lady Bucs. Meagan Shackleford drove in a run, while Bernard, Cerrito and Hannah Shackelford all scored.
CBU will be back in action this Saturday, March 4 when the Lady Bucs play host to Rhodes College with a double-header beginning at 1:00 p.m.
