Game One Box | Game Two Box
Russellville, AR - Bobby Lawrence had two three-run homers today and scored three times, but the Christian Brothers University Buccaneer baseball team could only muster a split at Arkansas Tech University, winning game one, 11-6, but falling in the nightcap, 8-7.
CBU (13-7, 4-4 GSC) was down 2-1 going into the third inning in game one, before the Bucs broke out and scored seven runs. Blake Christian doubled in two to start the scoring. Charlie Soukup had an RBI single, before Lawrence's first home run plated the sixth run of the inning. Michael St. Cin eneded the scoring with an RBI single to left center.
The Bucs scored two in the fourth and one in the seventh. Charlie Soukup started and went seven innings, allowing four earned runs, while striking out four. Carl McKee pitched a perfect eighth and Steven Thomas came in for the ninth. Christian and Lawrence drove in three each, while Mark Foster scored three times and had three hits. John Raymond Hehn had a homer and two RBIs.
ATU (12-12, 2-6 GSC) scored two runs in the first inning of game two to take an early 2-0 lead. The Bucs would answer back with three of their own in the top of the second on Lawrence's second homer of the day.
Tech scored a run in the second and third and the game was tied 4-4 going into the fourth when the Bucs scored two runs to take a 6-4 lead. Tech scored three more times in the bottom of the fourth to take a one run lead, but a home run from Soukup in the fifth tied the game once again.
However, a double from Tech's Tony Sanchez to start the seventh and a single to left from Justin Bollig plated the winning run for the Wonder Boys.
Foster, Hehn and Soukup all had an RBI, while Lawrence drove in three. Soukup scored twice. John Daush went three and two thirds, allowing six earned runs. Kenny Ellis came in and threw two and a third allowing just the final run and striking out three.
Both teams will be back at it tomorrow, March 19 for a single, nine-inning game at 2 p.m.
