Lady Bucs Down Rhodes College, 9-2

Memphis, TN - The Christian Brothers University Lady Buccaneer softball team scored seven unanswered runs and defeated the Rhodes Lynx today, 9-2.

CBU (12-17) scored two in the top of the first, but the Lynx bounced back with two of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 2. CBU scored three in the third when Hannah Shackelford reached on an error ito start the inning Meagan Shackelford reached on an error in the very next at bat, moving Hannah to third.

The Lady Bucs then executed a perfect fake steal when Meagan Shackleford got in a run down at first, allowing Hannah Shackelford to score. Meagan was safe at first without a throw. Michelle Paul capped off the inning with her first career home run blasting the ball to center field.

Both teams went scoreless until the seventh when the Lady Bucs pushed four runs across the board.

Rhodes (3-17) got two hits each from Jessika Morris and Amanda Lutzy.

Meagan Shackleford went 3-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Jenny Bernard had two hits and two RBIs while Paul went 2-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Hannah Shackelford scored twice and had a hit, while Sammy Maness had a hit, two RBIs and a run. Lauren Hearn went 2-4.

Kallie McFatter pitched six and a third in relief, striking out eight and walking none to earn the win.

The Lady Bucs will be back in action tomorrow, March 30 when they play host to Freed-Hardeman in a double-header beginning at 2 p.m.
