Game One Box | Game Two Box
Memphis, TN - Despite a grand slam from Tia Shores in game one, and going up a run in extra innings in game two, the Christian Brothers University Lady Buccaneer softball team dropped two games at Henderson State today. Game scores were 5-4 and 5-3.
CBU (18-30, 6-25 GSC) went down 5-0 after four innings in game one. Shores put four on the board in the top of the sixth, however, with a grand slam to left center. Jenny Bernard, Paula Cerrito and Michelle Paul all scored on the long ball.
Mandy Presson started and went two and a third, striking out one and walking none. Nikki Dunn came in to relieve and threw three and two thirds of an inning, striking out five and allowing just one hit.
HSU (32-12, 16-9 GSC) got another home run from Kelcie Glidden today. She drove in two and scored once, going 3-3 in game one.
The Lady Bucs got on top early in game two, scoring twice in the second inning. Lauren Hearn scored on an error and Kallie McFatter drove in Hannah Shackelford for run number two in the inning.
Henderson got two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie things up after McFatter had held them scoreless for the first six.
Both teams went scoreless in the eight, but the Lady Bucs pushed across a run in the top of the ninth to go up 3-2. Shores singled to start the inning and Meagan Shackleford singled her home.
Mcfatter started the ninth, but gave up two hits to the first two batters forcing a pitching change with Nikki Dunn coming in for CBU. Henderson's Lauren Lewis ran the count to 2-2 before taking the next pitch over the left field wall for the game-winning home run.
McFatter went eight innings, striking out four and walking none. She didn't allow a single run till the bottom of the seventh. Meagan Shackleford had two hits and drove in a run.
The Lady Bucs will be back in action on Tuesday, April 18 when they play host to Bethel College at 3 p.m. on Bland Field.
