Lady Bucs Drop First Two At GSC Crossover

Decatur, AL - The Christian Brothers University Lady Buccaneer softball team lost a pair of games to the top two teams in the GSC East, falling 4-1 to West Georgia, and 4-2 to North Alabama in the first day of the Gulf South Conference Crossover tournament.

CBU (17-22, 5-17 GSC) fell down 1-0 to West Georgia in game one as the Braves pushed a run across in the first inning, but the Lady Bucs scored a run of their own in the bottom of the second to tie the game at one. Jenny Bernard had an infield single, scoring Sammy Maness for the Lady Bucs' only run of the game.

UWG (24-16, 8-3 GSC) scored two runs in the fifth, and another in the seventh. Mary Carlisle had the big bomb with a two-run homer in the fifth.

Nikki Dunn went all seven, striking out eight. Bernard went 3-4 with an RBI. Maness had two hits and a run scored.

UNA (25-9, 11-5 GSC) scored three runs in the second and one in the fourth en route to a 4-2 win over the Lady Bucs in the second game. Kristen Maas and Lindsey Greene had RBI singles in the second inning for the Lions.

CBU put two runs on the board in the sixth when Lauren Zavelli had a two-run single to right center, scoring Bernard and Hannah Shackelford. Kallie McFatter started for the Lady Bucs and went four innings. Dunn came in and pitched a hitless three innings in relief, striking out four.

The Lady Bucs will be back in action tomorrow with two games. They will face off with West Florida at 11 a.m. then will play West Alabama at 1 p.m.
