Final Stats
MEMPHIS--The Christian Brothers Lady Bucs split two five-game matches on the first day of the UAH/Comfort Inn & Suites Tournament in Huntsville, Ala., Friday.
Sophomore Aubrey Pancratz (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) posted career highs of 13 kills and a .706 hitting percentage to help the Lady Bucs (6-4) to a 3-2 win over host Alabama-Huntsville (2-8) in the afternoon match, as CBU won 30-28, 23-30, 30-28, 25-30, 15-13.
Senior Krista Gyarmati (Phoenix, Ariz./Shadow Mountain HS) had a team-best 15 kills and tied sophomore Jenna Cherry (Covington, La./Covington HS) for the team lead in digs with 15. Senior Laura Washington (Seattle, Wash./Garfield HS) had 14 kills, while Cherry also added 10 kills. Sophomore Bridget Buckley (Parker, Colo./Chaparral HS) had 12 digs, and senior Lauren Amundson (Stanwood, Wash./Stanwood HS) had 11 digs to go with her 34 assists.
In the morning's first match, the Lady Bucs dropped a 3-2 nailbiter to Valdosta State (4-6) in a match that featured 25 ties and 14 lead changes, as VSU won 22-30, 30-22, 30-20, 29-31, 15-11.
Washington had 19 kills to lead the way for CBU. Freshman Hanna Orendorff (Renton, Wash./Renton HS) was the only other Lady Buc in double digits in kills with 14. Buckley had a team-best 15 digs, while Gyarmati and Cherry added 13 each and freshman Brenna Blackburn (Sandy, Utah/Brighton HS) had 10. Amundson had 52 assists.
The Lady Bucs will play twice tomorrow in the tournament, facing West Alabama at 9 a.m. and West Georgia at 1 p.m. They return home to face four-time defending GSC West Division champion Harding in the conference opener Tuesday night at Canale Arena.
