Overtime Unkind to Bucs Again

Oct. 14, 2007

Final Stats

CONWAY, Ark.--The Christian Brothers University Bucs' hard luck in extra time continued Sunday afternoon as they dropped a 2-1 double-overtime decision at NCAA Division I Central Arkansas in their final non-conference road game.

The Bears (6-6) scored first in the 67th minute as David Paddock found the net.  The Bucs (7-5-2) wasted little time scoring the equalizer as senior midfielder Matt Werakso (Wollongong, Australia) finished on a cross from sophomore midfielder Joshua Menard (Lafayette, La./Lafayette HS) in the 72nd minute, and neither side had a shot on goal the rest of regulation.

Werakso's 101st-minute shot was saved by UCA keeper Tyler Beckerle, and the Bears put the game away in the 103rd minute as Derik Schmille scored the game-winner.

For the day, the Bucs were out-shot 12-9, including 6-2 in shots on goal.  Junior goalkeeper Daniel Foster (Gallatin, Tenn./Gallatin HS) made four saves for CBU.

The Bucs, now 0-3-2 in overtime games, have ended regulation tied 1-1 in three of their last four games, ending with losses at Montevallo and UCA and a tie against Martin Methodist.  CBU dropped another 2-1 decision early in the year at Tampa, and they played to a 3-3 tie against Delta State.

The Bucs will return to Signaigo Field Wednesday night to host Ouachita Baptist at 7:00 p.m.
