Oct. 21, 2007

Final Stats

SEARCY, Ark.--A 21st-minute goal by freshman forward Brenden Ross (Toronto, Ontario) proved to be the only goal as the Christian Brothers University Bucs clinched a Gulf South Conference Tournament berth with a 1-0 win at Harding Sunday afternoon.

The Bucs (9-5-2, 2-2-1 GSC) only put one shot on goal, but Ross's header found the net off a cross from sophomore defender Robert Mingo (Covington, La./St. Paul's HS). CBU out-shot the Bisons (4-10, 1-4) 14-11, but Harding held a 3-1 edge in shots on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Daniel Foster (Gallatin, Tenn./Gallatin HS) made three saves for his seventh shutout of the season.

With the win, CBU moves into third place in the GSC with five points, one ahead of Ouachita Baptist. No. 3 West Florida and No. 19 Montevallo are tied for first with 10 points. CBU, UWF, and Montevallo have clinched berths in the GSC Tournament, while Ouachita Baptist and Harding will play for the final spot. The GSC Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 2-4 in Pensacola, Fla.

The Bucs step out of GSC play Tuesday night as they host Crichton for Senior Night at 7 p.m. CBU will honor seniors Brian McNamara (Lafayette, La./Lafayette HS), Ryan Peel (Mission, B.C./Hatzic Secondary), and Matt Werakso (Wollongong, Australia).
