Oct. 3, 2007

Final Stats

MONTEVALLO, Ala.--In a game eerily similar to the last meeting between the two schools, host Montevallo earned a 2-1 overtime win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Wednesday night in Gulf South Conference play.

The Falcons (10-1-1, 3-0 GSC) used two goals from All-GSC forward Jonathan Maloney to earn the win.

He scored the game's first goal in the 48th minute off assists from Glenn Murphy and Otavio Tramontina.

The Bucs found an equalizer from sophomore defender Robert Mingo (Covington, La./St. Paul's HS) in the 73rd minute as he scored off a corner kick by senior midfielder Ryan Peel (Mission, B.C./Hatzic Secondary).

But at 94:05, Maloney, who is second in the nation in goals per game and points per game, scored his 18th of the season unassisted to give the Falcons the victory.

In the GSC semifinals Oct. 27 of last year, Maloney scored first to put Montevallo ahead in the 28th minute. The Bucs tied it in the 76th minute, but the Falcons won at 93:54 with an Andy Hall goal to advance to the GSC championship game.

The road doesn't get any easier for the Bucs, as they welcome No. 11 West Florida to Signaigo Field Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. UWF is the defending GSC champion and has won 11 straight GSC games.
