HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs scored the first nine points and never trailed as they won 64-58 at Alabama-Huntsville in their first road game of the season.
The Lady Bucs (3-0) kept the pressure on, steadily building their lead to as much as 25 points at 54-29 with 6:09 to play, but UAH (1-2) out-scored CBU 29-10 over the game's final 10 minutes, with most of the points on both sides coming at the free throw line.
Junior guard Tameka Wooten (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) led the Lady Bucs with 19 points, while junior forward Crystal Shelton (Nashville, Tenn./Hume Fogg HS) had 15 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Kat Butler (Nashville, Tenn./Brentwood HS) added 14 points for CBU, while senior center Ponecia Anderson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bolton HS) dominated the middle defensively with 11 rebounds and three blocks in 24 minutes.
Tonya McKinney led the Lady Chargers with a game-high 23 points and nine rebounds. Ashley Boykin added 11 points.
The Lady Bucs dominated the game defensively, holding UAH to just 29.5 percent (18-of-61) from the floor and 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from three-point range. CBU was 38.9 percent (21-of-54) from the floor and 32 percent (8-of-25) from three-point range.
The Lady Bucs will be back in action Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they visit Bellarmine (Ky.). CBU comes home Thursday night, Nov. 29, to host Mid-Continent (Ky.) at 5 p.m.
