Huge Second-Half Run Lifts Lady Bucs to Seventh Straight, 76-55

MEMPHIS--A 17-1 second-half run allowed the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs to pull away for a 76-55 win at LeMoyne-Owen Wednesday night as the Lady Bucs won their seventh straight game.

With the win, the Lady Bucs (10-1) tied their longest winning streak under head coach Scott Groninger. They started the 2004-05 season, his first at CBU, 7-0.

Early on, the game was close both ways, with neither side leading by more than six in the first half. Early in the second half, the Lady Bucs pushed their lead to 10 twice, but the Lady Magicians (1-8) trimmed the lead to five at 48-43 on a Carol Martin free throw with 10:39 remaining.

The Lady Bucs scored 17 of the next 18 points to blow the game wide open, taking a 65-44 lead on a three-pointer by junior guard Kat Butler (Nashville, Tenn./Brentwood HS) with 6:27 remaining. LeMoyne-Owen never came closer than 19 points again.

Butler nearly had a triple-double for the Lady Bucs, finishing with 10 rebounds, eight assists, and four steals to go with her 15 points. Junior forward Crystal Shelton (Nashville, Tenn./Hume Fogg HS) led CBU with a game-high 17 points. Junior guard Erin Nigh (Morristown, Ind./Morristown HS) scored 15 points and grabbed a career-best nine rebounds, while junior forward Katie Quinton (Dresden, Tenn./Dresden HS) tied her career high with 10 off the bench.

Chanell Davis led the Lady Magicians with 16 points.

The Lady Bucs shot 48.3 percent (28-of-58) from the floor, including 39.1 percent (9-of-23) from three-point range, while LeMoyne-Owen was 33.3 percent (19-of-57) from the floor and 35.7 percent (5-of-14) from three-point range. CBU out-rebounded the Lady Magicians 46-37, but turned it over 19 times to LeMoyne-Owen's 14. The Lady Bucs had 24 assists, two off their season-high, and scored a season-best 21 fast-break points.

The Lady Bucs will be back in action Thursday, Jan. 3, against Lane. Tip-off at Canale Arena is set for 5 p.m.
