Golden Sun Threes Sink Lady Bucs

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.--Host Arkansas Tech tied a school record with 14 three-pointers on their way to a 72-52 Gulf South Conference West Division win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Thursday night at Tucker Coliseum.

The Golden Suns (15-7, 7-2 GSC West) made five straight threes in the first half to turn a 2-2 tie into a 17-8 lead with 13:05 remaining in the half, and the Lady Bucs (8-14, 0-9) never came closer than five points again.

Six different Golden Suns made three-pointers, led by four each by Ashley Grappe and Christy Mahan. Ashley Grappe led the Golden Suns with 19 points. Krishna Baker scored 13 points, while Mahan and Amanda Grappe scored 12 each.

Crystal Shelton (Nashville, Tenn./Hume Fogg HS) scored a game-high 21 to lead the Lady Bucs. Jessica Plunkett (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) added 11 points. Kelli Gross (Memphis, Tenn./Houston HS) grabbed a game-best nine rebounds and added four assists as she pulled within 10 assists of the CBU career record.

The Lady Bucs return to Canale Arena Saturday afternoon for Homecoming as they host No. 25 Henderson State. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
