FLORENCE, Ala.--North Alabama's six-run third inning spoiled an early Christian Brothers University lead as the host Lions defeated the Bucs 12-6 Tuesday afternoon at University Field.
The Bucs (13-9) drew first blood in the top of the third inning, converting six hits and an error into five runs. Matt Trouy (Millington, Tenn./Millington HS) led off with a single and scored on an Andrew Griffy (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton HS) triple. Griffy scored on an errant pickoff throw by the pitcher. With two out, Charlie Soukup (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) doubled. Ryne Dahlke (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) singled to send him to third, and Anthony Apro (Nicholasville, Ky./West Jessamine HS) ripped an RBI double. With runners on second and third, Alvino Ramirez (Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial HS) capped the inning with a two-run single that gave the Bucs a 5-0 lead.
The Lions (16-8-1) wasted no time taking the lead, scoring six runs on seven hits in the third inning and never trailing again. The Lions tacked on two runs each in the fifth, sixth, and seventh to stretch the lead to 12-5, and they held on for the win.
Dahlke went 3-for-5 for the Bucs, while Trouy and Griffy were 2-for-4.
The Bucs will return to Buc Field Thursday afternoon with a doubleheader against Edgewood (Wis.) beginning at 2 p.m.
