Huge First Inning Carries Bucs

MONTICELLO, Ark.--The Christian Brothers University Bucs scored 11 runs as they sent 16 batters to the plate in the top of the first inning on their way to a 15-5 rout of host Arkansas-Monticello Sunday afternoon as they finished their first weekend of Gulf South Conference West Division play.

The Bucs (16-10, 2-1 GSC West) had nine hits, three walks, and a hit batter in the inning as the Boll Weevils (3-22, 1-2) needed three pitchers to get through the inning.

Junior shortstop Mark Foster (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) went 5-for-5 with three runs and three RBI to pace the Bucs' offense, which piled up 18 hits as a team. Anthony Apro (Nicholasville, Ky./West Jessamine HS) went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI. Josh Shelton (Millington, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS), Alvino Ramirez (Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial HS), Charlie Soukup (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS), and Andrew Griffy (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton HS) added two hits each. Ramirez and Soukup each drove in three runs, while Matt Trouy (Millington, Tenn./Millington HS) scored three runs.

John Daush (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) earned the victory, moving to 3-2 on the year as he allowed four runs on seven hits and four walks in six innings.

The Bucs return home Tuesday with a game against Mid-Continent (Ky.) at 2 p.m.
