MEMPHIS--The Christian Brothers University Bucs hit four homers and five doubles as they rolled to a 22-10 victory over host LeMoyne-Owen at Jesse Turner Field Wednesday afternoon.
The Magicians built a 6-2 lead in the first three innings, scoring one in the first, two in the second, and three in the third. The Bucs (18-10) countered with a run in the second and another in the third, both thanks to doubles by Joseph Kaminski (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS). Kaminski led off the second with a double and scored on a wild pitch, and he doubled Charlie Soukup (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) home for the Bucs' run in the third.
A two-out rally in the fourth helped the Bucs pull within two runs. Mark Foster (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) singled through the left side and scored on a Josh Shelton (Millington, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) double to center. Soukup followed that with another RBI double to pull within 6-4.
CBU exploded for 13 runs in the fifth inning to take control of the game. Two walks set up a Matt Wilder (Seattle, Wash./O'dea HS) three-run bomb to left. The next four Bucs reached before a caught stealing and a flyout put two outs on the board. With two out, the next seven Bucs reached and scored, capped by back-to-back homers by Steven Shelton (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) and Foster. Shelton tacked on another homer in the seventh inning, the first time this season any Buc has had a multi-homer game.
Kaminski, Steven Shelton, and Alvino Ramirez (Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial HS) led the Bucs with three hits each. Kaminski had a season-high three doubles. Foster, Josh Shelton, Soukup, Wilder, and Matt Stephany (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) added two hits each.
Brad Koewler (Batavia, Ohio/Glen Este HS) earned the win for the Bucs, giving up four runs, three earned, in two innings out of the bullpen as he improved to 3-0. Molly McKesson (St. Petersburg, Fla./Gibbs HS) and Dave Delugach (Hernando, Miss./Memphis University School) each threw a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts.
The Bucs will return to action tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. as they host Illinois Wesleyan.
