JACKSON, Tenn.--A four-run sixth inning powered host Union past the Christian Brothers University Bucs 6-2 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.
The Bucs (18-15) drew first blood with a pair of runs in the third. Josh Shelton (Millington, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) led off with a single to left, followed by a Charlie Soukup (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) walk. Ryne Dahlke (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) singled to right, and Shelton and Soukup both scored on an error by the right fielder as he missed the ball.
CBU threatened to blow it open in the top of the sixth, loading the bases with none out, but a double play and a flyout ended the inning with no runs.
Union (19-10) answered in the bottom of the sixth. Josiah Enyart led off with a double. A Zach Lowery single and a Judson Powers walk loaded the bases. Shaun Cozart drove Enyart in with a groundout, and Joe Robinson's three-run homer to right-center gave the Bulldogs all the scoring they would need.
Union finished the scoring an inning later. Tyler Porter led off with a bunt single and scored on an Enyart single. Lowery reached on a fielder's choice, and singles by Powers and Cozart brought in the game's final run.
Anthony Apro (Nicholasville, Ky./West Jessamine HS) took the loss for the Bucs, dropping to 1-3 as he allowed four runs in two innings. Shawn Morgan (Bartlett, Tenn./Evangelical Christian HS) tossed four scoreless innings to start the game, scattering three hits and a walk.
Joseph Kaminski (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic HS) went 2-for-4 for the Bucs.
The Bucs will return home this weekend to face second-place Arkansas Tech in a Gulf South Conference West Division series. Saturday's doubleheader starts at noon, with Sunday's single game set for a 1 p.m. start.
