ARKADELPHIA, Ark.--No. 5 Ouachita Baptist took two close wins over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Saturday afternoon, winning 5-4 in 12 innings and 4-2 in the second game of the doubleheader as they stayed in first place in the Gulf South Conference's West Division.
The Tigers (47-6, 17-3 GSC West) rallied with two outs twice in extra innings to win the first game. The Bucs (21-30, 4-15) took a 4-3 lead in the top of the 11th as Andrew Griffy (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton HS) was hit by a pitch and came around to score on an error. The Tigers' Destan Makonnen, who had homered earlier in the game, drew a two-out walk with none on, and pinch-runner Blake Lockwood scored from first on a Jim Streicher double down the right field line.
The Tigers won the game in the 12th the same way. David Fischer was hit by a pitch with two out and none on, and Chance Beasley doubled off the fence in right-center to score him from first for the winning run.
In the second game, the Bucs took a lead early, as Ryne Dahlke (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) singled in the second and scored on a Steven Shelton (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) RBI single. Mark Foster (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) blasted a leadoff homer in the third to give CBU a 2-0 lead, but the Tigers stormed back for three runs in the fourth inning. They added one more in the fifth to finish the 4-2 margin.
The Bucs and Tigers will meet again Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the Bucs' final game of the season.
