Lady Bucs Sweep Crichton

MEMPHIS--The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs combined for 27 service aces as they swept Crichton 3-0 Tuesday night at Canale Arena.

CBU's 27 aces are the fourth-most in Gulf South Conference history and the most for CBU since setting the GSC record with 35 against Lane in 2005.

Eight different Lady Bucs had at least one ace, led by sophomore setter Brenna Blackburn (Sandy, Utah/Brighton HS) with seven. Junior outside hitter Jenna Cherry (Covington, La./Covington HS) added six,

The Lady Bucs (5-1) hit .415 as a team, with 34 kills. Junior middle blocker Stephanie Parker (Collierville, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) led the Lady Bucs with a career-high eight kills in 11 attempts. Freshman outside hitter Leigh Stavrum (Chattanooga, Tenn./Notre Dame HS) also set a career high with six kills.

Blackburn had 13 assists in two games, and freshman outside hitter Michelle Hein (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) collected 11 assists after replacing Blackburn at setter in game two.

The Lady Bucs will play their next 13 matches on the road, beginning with four this weekend in the Viva Health/University of Montevallo Classic in Montevallo, Ala. CBU will face Flagler (Fla.) and Montevallo on Friday and Shaw (N.C.) and Drury (Mo.) on Saturday.

CBU's next home match will be Thursday, Sept. 20, against GSC West foe Ouachita Baptist.
