ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs moved one step closer to a berth in next month's Gulf South Conference Tournament with a five-set win at Henderson State Thursday night.
The win would not come easily for the Lady Bucs (17-6, 5-2 GSC West), who won 25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 16-25, 15-9 as the back-and-forth match saw 188 digs between the two teams.
Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) had a team-high 30 digs, the Lady Bucs' most since Krista Gyarmati had 33 against Southern Arkansas in November 2003.
Michelle Hein (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) led five Lady Bucs in double-figures in kills with 13.
Jenna Cherry (Covington, La./Covington HS) and
Hanna Orendorff (Renton, Wash./Liberty HS) had a dozen each, while Nolan and
Aubrey Pancratz (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) each had 10.
Hein also added 22 digs, as five Lady Bucs also reached double figures in that category. Cherry and
Whitney Weyhrich (Lincoln, Neb./North Star HS) had 13 each, while
Bridget Buckley (Parker, Colo./Chapparal HS) added 12. Weyhrich also added 54 assists.
Tania Liufau led HSU (2-19, 1-6) with 14 kills, while Tiffany Gunn had 10. Bethany Wright recorded a match-high 44 digs for the Lady Reddies.
The Lady Bucs step out of GSC West play Saturday as they visit Trevecca Nazarene for a tri-match. They will face Evangel at 2 p.m. before taking on TNU at 4 p.m.
