MONTICELLO, Ark.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs wrapped up their best regular season since joining the Gulf South Conference and the NCAA as they held off host Arkansas-Monticello in five sets Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Bucs (25-9, 8-4 GSC West) outlasted UAM (18-17, 4-8) 22-25, 25-23, 25-19, 20-25, 15-12 in a match that took nearly two hours.
Aubrey Pancratz (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) led the way with 17 kills, one of four Lady Bucs to reach double figures. She also racked up a match-high six blocks.
Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) added 15 kills and and 12 digs,
Michelle Hein (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) had 13 kills and 16 digs, and
Jenna Cherry (Covington, La./Covington HS) collected 12 kills and 13 digs.
Whitney Weyhrich (Lincoln, Neb./North Star HS) collected 53 assists to lead the Lady Bucs' offense, which hit .286.
Kelsey Green (Memphis, Tenn./St. Agnes Academy) had 11 digs, while
Bridget Buckley (Parker, Colo./Chapparal HS) added 10.
Jalynn Thornton led the Cotton Blossoms with 23 kills. Nicole Ferguson added 19, while Taura Rush had 15. Setter Maegan Martin posted a match-high 64 assists, while MacKenzie Willis tied Hein for match-high honors with 16 digs.
The Lady Bucs will take the court again Friday at noon in the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament. As the third seed from the west, they will take on the East Division's No. 2 seed North Alabama. The tournament will be hosted by East Division champion West Florida.
