MCKENZIE, Tenn.--Junior pitcher Nikki Dunn (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) tossed her first career perfect game as the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs earned a doubleheader sweep at Bethel Monday afternoon, winning 4-0 and 5-4.
Dunn dominated in the first game, striking out 17 of the 21 batters she faced and only allowing one ball out of the infield. The perfect game marked Dunn's second no-hitter at CBU, as she no-hit Crichton last season.
The Lady Bucs (8-2) scored first in the top of the third, when Casey King (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) hit an RBI double. The Lady Bucs pulled away in the sixth, when Sammy Maness (Gallatin, Tenn./Gallatin HS) hit a two-run homer, followed a batter later by another homer by Paige Wright (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS). Maness went 2-for-3 for the game.
The Lady Bucs rallied for another win in the second game, winning 5-4. Maness went 2-for-3 with another two-run homer, while Kathleen Nelson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bolton HS) and Jessica Ambers (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) also had two hits each.
Kallie McFatter (Mansfield, Texas/Summit HS) earned the win for the Lady Bucs, allowing four runs on 10 hits over 5.2 innings. Dunn finished the game off for her first save of the season, retiring four of the five batters she faced with three strikeouts.
The Lady Bucs will be back in action Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they host Union for a doubleheader.
