Feb. 28, 2008

Final Stats

MONTICELLO, Ark.--Junior guard Kat Butler (Nashville, Tenn./Brentwood HS) scored 12 of her 23 points in overtime to carry the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs to a 64-56 win at Arkansas-Monticello Thursday night to stay alive in their quest for a bid in next week's Gulf South Conference Tournament at the DeSoto Civic Center.

Butler made back-to-back threes to start the overtime then scored the Lady Bucs' next six points at the free throw line as CBU (17-9, 5-8 GSC West) pulled away in overtime after regulation featured eight ties and 14 lead changes. After Butler's start to overtime, the Cotton Blossoms (13-13, 6-7) never came closer than four points again as the Lady Bucs held UAM to 0-for-8 from the floor in overtime.

Butler added seven rebounds to her team-high 23 points, leading four Lady Bucs in double-figure scoring. Erin Nigh (Morristown, Ind./Morristown HS) posted her first double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Crystal Shelton (Nashville, Tenn./Hume Fogg HS) scored 16 points, while Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) added 10.

Erika Brown led the Cotton Blossoms with 25 points, while Andrea Dubose scored 10.

The Lady Bucs' stingy defense held UAM to 27.7 percent (18-of-65) from the floor, while CBU shot 36.1 percent (22-of-61). The Cotton Blossoms out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 47-44 and forced 14 turnovers while committing 12.

The Lady Bucs will try to punch their ticket to Southaven Saturday when they host Harding at 3 p.m. for Senior Day.
