ARKADELPHIA, Ark.--Host Henderson State hit five home runs to win a pair of close games over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs, 2-0 and 4-3 to finish a sweep of the four-game Gulf South Conference series.
The Lady Reddies (30-8, 10-2 GSC) used solo homers in the fifth and sixth innings of the opener to break a scoreless deadlock and win 2-0. The Lady Bucs (12-16, 1-11) put runners in scoring position in the top of the fifth and sixth, but they were stranded there.
In game two, the Lady Bucs struck first with a three-run first inning that featured back-to-back successful squeeze bunts by Casey King (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) and Michelle Paul (Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Summit HS).
The Lady Reddies answered with two in the bottom of the second with a homer and an RBI double. They won it with a pair of solo homers in the fourth inning.
Kallie McFatter (Mansfield, Texas/Summit HS) went 2-for-3 in the second game with an RBI single in the first inning.
The Lady Bucs visit Rhodes Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader. They return home Sunday, April 6, for a GSC doubleheader with Arkansas Tech.
