SOUTHAVEN, Miss.--Freshman forward Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) scored a career-high 20 points to lead the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs to a 68-62 victory over North Alabama in the Gulf South Conference Tournament Wednesday afternoon at the DeSoto Civic Center.
The Lady Bucs (19-9) trailed throughout the first half, but they used a 20-9 second-half run to build a 49-42 advantage on a Katie Hume (Memphis, Tenn./Evangelical Christian School) three-pointer with 11:21 remaining. UNA (13-15) trimmed the lead to three with back-to-back baskets, but CBU responded with a 10-3 run to take the game's largest lead at 59-49 with just 3:01 to play. The Lions trimmed the lead to three points twice in the final minute, but the Lady Bucs salted it away with three Kat Butler (Nashville, Tenn./Brentwood HS) free throws.
Erin Nigh (Morristown, Ind./Morristown HS) scored 13 points with a game-high eight rebounds.
Jameica York led UNA with 25 points.
The Lady Bucs shot 47.8 percent (22-of-46) for the game while holding UNA to 36.8 percent (21-of-57).
With the win, the Lady Bucs advance to the quarterfinal round, where they will face No. 1 Delta State Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
