DECATUR, Ala.--The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs were swept by North Alabama and No. 3 Alabama-Huntsville in the Gulf South Conference Crossover Friday afternoon.
In the first game, North Alabama (21-16, 9-7 GSC) pitcher Sabrina Roberts tossed a three-hit shutout, keeping the Lady Bucs' offense in check. The Lions scored the only run they would need in the third inning as Sarah Whitlow doubled to start the inning and came home on a wild pitch. UNA tacked on another run two innings later, providing the final score when Whitlow scored on a Jennifer Sharp single.
In the second game, the No. 3 Lady Chargers (40-6, 11-4) scored six runs in the second inning on their way to a 7-2 win.
UAH scored on a bases-loaded walk in the first, and they batted around in the second inning. The inning started with two doubles and a single. After an out, back-to-back singles brought in three more runs, and a two-run Beth Lawson homer capped the inning.
The Lady Bucs (14-23, 1-18) broke through in the sixth inning. A Kathleen Nelson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bolton HS) single followed by a Victoria Mathews (Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Summit HS) double put two runners in scoring position with none out. Paige Wright (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) singled Nelson home, and Mathews scored on a Casey King (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) groundout.
Wright went 3-for-3 in game two, while Michelle Paul (Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Summit HS) was 2-for-3.
The Lady Bucs will finish the GSC Crossover tomorrow at 10 a.m. when they face No. 20 Valdosta State.
