MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs opened the season with a pair of wins in the CBU Tournament, defeating Kentucky Wesleyan 3-1 in the morning before rallying past Montevallo 3-2 in the late match.
In the first match, the Lady Bucs (2-0) used 12 kills by senior Aubrey Pancratz (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) and 10 from senior
Jenna Cherry (Covington, La./Covington HS) to roll to a 25-14, 25-19, 20-25, 25-21 win over the Panthers (1-1). Senior libero
Bridget Buckley (Parker, Colo./Chapparal HS) collected a team-best 14 digs, while freshman setter
Whitney Weyhrich (Lincoln, Neb./North Star HS) had 33 assists in her college debut.
The second match was one of extremes. The Lady Bucs won the first set 25-19, but dropped the next two 25-16 and 25-11 as Montevallo (1-1) appeared well on their way to victory. CBU scratched out a 25-22 win to force a fifth set, and they stormed out to a 9-0 lead on their way to a 15-7 win.

Hanna Orendorff (Renton, Wash./Liberty HS) led the way with 11 kills, while sophomore
Michelle Hein (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) added 10. Cherry led the Lady Bucs with 22 digs and seven total blocks as CBU placed six players in double-figures in digs. Weyhrich posted 35 assists.
The Lady Bucs will be back in action tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. as they face West Liberty State. Montevallo plays at 9 a.m. against Kentucky Wesleyan. The Lady Bucs will face the winner of that match at 3 p.m. for the championship of the CBU Tournament, while WLSC will take on the loser in the third-place match at 1 p.m.
