Lady Bucs Take Three of Four at Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs won three of four matches during the Tusculum Fall Volleyball Classic this weekend.

The Lady Bucs (9-4) split their matches Friday and won both matches Saturday.

In the opener, they outlasted Augusta State (4-5) 25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 21-25, 17-15 as freshman setter Whitney Weyhrich (Lincoln, Neb./North Star HS) collected a career-high 60 assists.  Four different Lady Bucs reached double digits in kills, led by 14 from Hanna Orendorff (Renton, Wash./Liberty HS), while five different players found double digits in digs, led by a career-high 21 from Leigh Stavrum (Chattanooga, Tenn./Notre Dame HS), who turned in her second straight strong defensive performance after collecting 19 digs at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

The Lady Bucs dropped the nightcap to West Alabama (8-4), however, falling 25-20, 25-19, 25-23 just seven days after losing 3-1 to UWA in the UAH Volleyball Classic.  Jenna Cherry (Covington, La./Covington HS) had a team-high nine kills, while Michelle Hein (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) collected 15 digs.

Saturday, the Lady Bucs rolled to a 25-20, 25-17, 25-16 win over Barton (0-4).  Kelsey Green (Memphis, Tenn./St. Agnes Academy) had 24 assists as she made her first start at setter, while Bridget Buckley (Parker, Colo./Chapparal HS) set a season high in digs with 18.

The Lady Bucs finished the weekend with a wild 23-25, 25-21, 25-19, 9-25, 16-14 win over Lander (9-3), led by 18 kills from Orendorff, who set a new career high.  Buckley was one off her career high with 25 digs, while Weyhrich had 43 assists.

Weyhrich was named to the All-Tournament Team after picking up 135 assists in three matches.

The Lady Bucs will be back in action as they visit Crichton Monday night at 7 p.m.  They return home to face Rhodes Tuesday at 7 p.m.
