MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs used a balanced offense with five players recording at least nine kills as they picked up their sixth straight win, a four-setter over Henderson State in the Gulf South Conference West Division opener for both schools.
The Lady Bucs (13-4, 1-0 GSC West) won the first set 25-20 and dominated the second set 25-8. The Lady Reddies (1-11, 0-1) took the third set 25-21 before the Lady Bucs won the clincher, also 25-21.
Hanna Orendorff (Renton, Wash./Liberty HS) and
Aubrey Pancratz (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) led CBU with 11 kills each, while
Jenna Cherry (Covington, La./Covington HS) and
Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) each added 10.
Michelle Hein (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) chipped in with nine kills to go with her match-best 22 digs, helping CBU to a 62-44 edge in digs for the match.
Whitney Weyhrich (Lincoln, Neb./North Star HS) collected 40 assists.
Tiffany Gunn led the Lady Reddies with 12 kills. Quen Banks added 11, while Tania Liufau had 10. Bethany Wright added a team-high 18 digs.
The Lady Bucs will be back in action Thursday night as they visit Ouachita Baptist at 6 p.m. Their next home match is set for Thursday, Oct. 2, against Harding.
