MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs split a pair of matches Saturday, rallying for a five-set win over Northwest Missouri State Saturday morning but dropping a four-setter to Missouri-St. Louis in the final match of the season-opening Christian Brothers University Tournament.
The Lady Bucs (3-1) fell behind early against Northwest MIssouri State (3-1), dropping the first set 25-15 and falling 25-20 in the second set. The Lady Bucs took the third set 25-18 and held on for a 25-23 win in a nip-and-tuck fourth set before winning 15-12 in the decisive fifth set.
Hanna Orendorff (Renton, Wash./Liberty HS) led the CBU offense with 13 kills, while
Michelle Hein (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) added 12.
Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) and
Logan Westphal (Herndon, Va./Herndon HS) collected 10 kills each.
Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) led the defense with 23 of the Lady Bucs' 82 digs. Nolan added 18, while Hein Collected 17.
Whitney Weyhrich (Lincoln, Neb./North Star HS) had 45 assists to go with her 12 digs.
In the nightcap, Missouri-St. Louis (3-1) edged the Lady Bucs 25-22 in the first set. The Lady Bucs answered with a 25-17 win in the second set, but UMSL won 25-17 and 25-18 to close out the victory.
Nolan led the Lady Bucs with 11 kills and 13 digs against UMSL, while Orendorff added 10 kills.
Kelsey Green (Memphis, Tenn./St. Agnes Academy) had 12 digs, while Weyhrich had 39 assists.
The Lady Bucs return to action at Canale Arena Tuesday night at 7 p.m. to face Freed-Hardeman.
