SPRINGFIELD, Ill.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs swept both matches of a tri-match at Illinois-Springfield Saturday night in their final tune-up before Gulf South Conference West Division play, topping Missouri Science & Technology in four sets before edging the hosts in five.
The Lady Bucs (11-6) used 14 kills by
Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) as they won the opener 25-22, 18-25, 25-21, 25-22 over Missouri S&T (4-13).
Michelle Hein (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) posted 13 kills and a team-best 16 digs, while
Logan Westphal (Herndon, Va./Herndon HS) hit .450 with 10 kills.
Kelsey Green (Memphis, Tenn./St. Agnes Academy) collected 45 assists, while
Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) had 12 kills.
In the nightcap,
Hanna Orendorff (Renton, Wash./Liberty HS) pounded 17 kills with six blocks to lead the Lady Bucs to a 23-25, 13-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-8 comeback win over Illinois-Springfield (6-8). Hein added 14 kills and 15 digs, while Nolan had 11 kills and a team-high 18 digs.
Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) contributed 12 kills. Defensively, Doder had 15 digs, while
Lauren South (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) added 11. Green had 54 assists.
The Lady Bucs open GSC West play Tuesday night in Arkadelphia, Ark., as they take on Henderson State. They return home Saturday for a tri-match with Ouachita Baptist and West Alabama. The Lady Bucs play OBU in a GSC match at 1 p.m. OBU plays UWA at 3 p.m., then the Lady Bucs play UWA at 5 p.m.
