Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs remained in first place in the Gulf South Conference West Division after a five-set win over Ouachita Baptist Tuesday night which featured 40 ties and 18 lead changes.
The Lady Tigers (12-8, 1-7 GSC West) jumped to an early lead with a 25-16 win in the first set, taking control with a stretch where they scored 12 of 14 points. The Lady Bucs (14-10, 7-1) knotted the match at one with a 29-27 win in a second set that saw 14 ties and four lead changes. In the third set, the Lady Bucs scored eight of the last 11 points to eke out a 25-21 win.
Ouachita scored nine straight points to pull away for a 25-15 win in the fourth set, sending the match to a decisive fifth set. The Lady Bucs built an 11-7 lead in the back-and-forth set, but OBU answered with five of the next six points to tie the set at 12. A
Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) kill put the Lady Bucs ahead for good, and
Alison Welch (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) finished the match with her season-high 10th kill, giving the Lady Bucs a 15-13 win in the set.
Welch was one of five Lady Bucs to reach double-figures in kills, led by Nolan with 16 to go with 17 digs.
Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) added 14 kills and 11 digs, while
Lizzie McLean (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) had 12 kills and six blocks.
Logan Westphal (Herndon, Va./Herndon HS) also notched 11 kills.
Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) posted a team-high 19 digs as well as a match-best 55 assists, while
Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) had 16 digs.
Libby Merritt and Faith Avalos led OBU with 12 kills each, while Allison Frizzell logged a match-best 35 digs.
The Lady Bucs return to the court Saturday afternoon with a tri-match. They take on Southern Arkansas in a GSC West match at 1 p.m. After SAU faces Alabama-Huntsville at 3 p.m., the Lady Bucs play Alabama-Huntsville at 5 p.m.
