ATU Stops Lady Bucs in Four Sets

Michelle Hein had 11 kills and 13 digs in the Lady Bucs' four-set loss to Arkansas Tech.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs won the first set in Thursday night's tilt against Arkansas Tech, but the Golden Suns won the final three sets to claim a four-set victory to end the Lady Bucs' hopes of a tie for the Gulf South Conference West Division crown.

The Lady Bucs (16-12, 8-3 GSC West) won a back-and-forth first set 25-23 after 16 ties and five lead changes.  ATU (26-4, 9-1) answered with a 25-23 win of their own in the second set after 17 ties and nine lead changes.  ATU pulled away for a 25-16 win in the third set to take control, and they seemed to have it well in hand as they jumped to a 9-1 lead in the fourth set.  The Lady Bucs eventually battled back within a point at 16-15, but ATU pulled away again to win 25-19.

Michelle Hein (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) led the Lady Bucs with 11 kills to go with 13 digs.  Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) and Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) added 10 kills each, while Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) had 21 digs.  Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) collected a match-best 21 digs.

Sarah Von Lienen led ATU with 16 kills and six blocks.  Laura Farney added 15 kills, and Kera Dukic set a match-high 47 assists.  Brennae Benda led ATU with 18 digs.

The Lady Bucs head into the final week of the season virtually assured of the No. 3 seed in next month's GSC Tournament.  They visit Arkansas-Pine Bluff Tuesday night at 6 p.m. before visiting LeMoyne-Owen Thursday night at 7 p.m.  They end the regular season Friday night at 6 p.m. with a trip to Arkansas-Monticello.
