Lady Bucs Eliminated in Five-Set Heartbreaker

Lizzie McLean had a season-high eight blocks, but the Lady Bucs dropped a five-set heartbreaker to North Alabama in the GSC Quarterfinals.
Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs dropped a five-set heartbreaker to North Alabama in the Gulf South Conference quarterfinals Friday afternoon at the UWF Field House, losing the match after building a two-set lead early and and leading as late as 16-15 in the fourth set.

The Lady Bucs (18-14) won the first two sets, never trailing as they won 25-19 and 25-16.  In the third set, UNA (20-8) withstood a furious CBU rally as the Lady Bucs came back from an 18-10 deficit to pull within one point at 22-21, but UNA scored the last three points to win 25-21.  The fourth set featured eight ties and four lead changes, with the Lions eventually winning 25-20.  In the final set, the Lions scored 10 of the last 13 points to win 15-7 and claim the victory.

Michelle Hein (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) and Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) led the Lady Bucs with 13 kills each, while Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) added 12 kills and 10 digs.  Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) paced the defense with 18 digs.  Nolan added 17 digs, while Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) had 48 assists and 15 digs.  Lizzie McLean (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) tacked on seven kills and a season-high eight blocks, including five during the fourth set.

Cara Gregg led UNA with 13 kills, while Brigid O'Brien recorded a match-high 25 digs.
