Box Score VALDOSTA, Ga.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs dropped a heartbreaking first set Saturday at Valdosta State, but they rallied to win the next three and come home with their fourth straight win.
In the opening set, the two teams went back and forth throughout, combining for 18 ties and nine lead changes. The only time VSU (9-7, 2-3 GSC) led by more than one point was in the end, when they scored the last three points to win 30-28 after the Lady Bucs (14-4, 3-2) had taken a 28-27 lead. The Lady Bucs scored six of the first seven points in the second set, but the Blazers rallied for a 14-12 lead. From there, though, the Lady Bucs scored 13 of the last 18 points to claim a 25-19 win. The third set was another back-and-forth one, with 14 ties and 10 lead changes, but the Lady Bucs rallied from an 18-16 deficit to claim a 25-21 win. In the final set, the Lady Bucs scored 11 of the last 15 points to pull away for a 25-16 win.
Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) collected a career-best 58 assists, helping four Lady Bucs reach double figures in kills, led by
Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) with 19.
Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) added 16 and matched Gillis and Miles in digs with 10.
Hannah Kurtz (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) pounded 14 kills, and
Kaitlin Keathley (Henderson, Nev./Silverado HS) added 13.
Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) continued her strong play with a match-best 33 digs.
The Lady Bucs come home Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when they host Bethel.
