Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs moved into a tie for third place in the Gulf South Conference with a three-set win over West Alabama Friday night at Canale Arena.
After conceding a quick 3-0 lead in the first set, the Lady Bucs (16-4, 4-2 GSC) answered with 15 of the next 19 points to take a commanding 15-7 lead. They held on to win the set 25-21 then followed a similar script in a 25-20 win in the second set, building a 13-7 lead and holding on. In the final set, the Lady Bucs led 16-9 and appeared to have total control, but the Tigers (13-6, 4-2) answered with eight of the next nine points to tie the set at 17. After the teams were knotted at 18, the Lady Bucs scored six straight points to take a 24-18 lead before winning 25-19.
Kaitlin Keathley (Henderson, Nev./Silverado HS) led a balanced attack with nine kills, while
Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) added eight kills to her 10 digs.
Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) and
Lizzie McLean (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) logged seven kills each.
Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) collected 10 digs, while
Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) continued her strong play with 33 assists and four kills.
Angela Sanders paced UWA with seven kills. Alexis McHale posted a team-high 12 assists, while Casey Byrnes gathered a match-high 11 digs.
The Lady Bucs complete the first half of the GSC schedule Tuesday night when they host Alabama-Huntsville at 7 p.m.
