Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs finished the 2011 regular season on a high note with a three-set win at Alabama-Huntsville Saturday afternoon as they finished in third place by themselves in the Gulf South Conference.
The Lady Bucs (24-9, 10-4 GSC) survived a nip-and-tuck opening set, scoring three of the last four points to break a 22-22 tie and win. From there, the Lady Bucs wasted little time, scoring the first six points on their way to a 25-17 win in the second set. After a back-and-forth start to the third set led to an 8-8 tie, the Lady Bucs exploded for 10 of the next 12 points to take an 18-10 lead en route to a 25-18 win.
Hannah Kurtz (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) led the Lady Bucs' offense with 12 kills, while
Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) added 10 digs to her 10 kills.
Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) collected match-bests of 41 assists and four aces.
Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) gathered a match-best 15 digs, followed by
Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) with 11.
Jessica Ruple and Stacey Sargent led UAH (9-23, 4-10) with eight kills each. Kaeli McCaghren led the team with 10 digs, and Kelly Wilson had 23 assists.
The Lady Bucs will return to the court Friday in the Gulf South Conference Tournament when they face Alabama-Huntsville again in Pensacola, Fla. The winner will face No. 2 seed North Alabama in the semifinals. Match times will be announced by the Gulf South Conference and will be posted at gobucsgo.com when they are available.
