Lady Bucs Split at UAH

Hailey Gillis had 10 kills in each match as the Lady Bucs beat Alabama-Huntsville in three sets but lost in four to Arkansas Tech Saturday at UAH.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs split a pair of matches in the UAH/Country Inn & Suites Classic Saturday, defeating host Alabama-Huntsville in three sets before losing in four sets to Arkansas Tech.

In the opener, the Lady Bucs (7-2) edged UAH (3-6) in three straight back-and-forth sets.  The Lady Bucs won the first set 25-22 and survived a nip-and-tuck second set with a 26-24 win after never leading by more than three points.  In the third set, the Lady Bucs trailed 17-14 but scored 11 of the last 15 points to take a 25-21 win to complete the sweep.

Hannah Kurtz (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) pounded 15 kills, and Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) added 10 kills.  Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) and Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) collected 17 digs each, and Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) picked up 36 assists.

In the afternoon match against ATU (7-1), the Lady Bucs fell behind early as ATU won the first two sets 25-19 and 25-17.  The Lady Bucs rallied from a 16-11 deficit in the third set to win 25-23, but ATU outlasted the Lady Bucs 25-22 in the fourth set to win the match.

Gillis led the Lady Bucs with 10 kills, while Nolan and Kaitlin Keathley (Henderson, Nev./Silverado HS) added nine each.  Doder posted a match-high 19 digs, and Miles had 30 assists.

The Lady Bucs hit the road again Tuesday night at 7 p.m. to visit Lyon.  They come home Saturday, when they face Austin at Rhodes at 9:30 a.m. before hosting Union at 2 p.m. at Canale Arena.
