Box Score 2 MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs opened their 2011 campaign in style with a pair of 3-0 sweeps over former Gulf South Conference rivals Montevallo and Arkansas-Monticello.
In the opener, the Lady Bucs (2-0) edged Montevallo (1-1) 25-21 in the first set and cruised to a 25-10 win in set two to take control. They finished it off with a 28-26 win in a third set that saw seven ties and five lead changes.
Lizzie McLean (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) pounded 10 kislls and hit .529 for the Lady Bucs, while
Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) collected 10 digs and 39 assists.
Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) notched a match-best 16 digs.
In the second match, the Lady Bucs won the first two sets 25-17 and 25-18 before rallying for a 27-25 win in the third set after Arkansas-Monticello (1-2) had led much of the way.
Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) collected 11 kills and eight digs, while
Kaitlin Keathley (Henderson, Nev./Silverado HS) added nine kills. Doder had 12 digs, while Miles gathered 31 assists.
The Lady Bucs return to the court Saturday with two more matches. They take on American International (Mass.) at 1 p.m. before wrapping up the CBU Invitational with a 5 p.m. tilt against another former GSC foe, Henderson State.
