Argos Edge Lady Bucs in Four Sets

Kaitlin Keathley had 11 kills in the Lady Bucs' four-set loss to West Florida Friday night.
Box Score MEMPHIS—Visiting West Florida won their Gulf South Conference opener in a tight four-set match against the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Friday night at Canale Arena.

The Argos (6-7, 1-0 GSC) cruised to a 25-16 win in the first set, scoring nine of 10 points in the middle of the set to turn a 9-5 deficit into a 14-10 lead.  They never let the Lady Bucs (10-4, 0-2) closer than three points again.  After the teams battled to a 12-12 tie to start the second set, the Lady Bucs steadily built a 23-18 lead and appeared on their way to even the match, but UWF seized momentum with three straight block errors on their way to a 25-23 win in the set. 

The Lady Bucs were the ones to finish strong in the third set, scoring 11 of the last 14 points as they won 25-19.  In the final set, UWF jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead and built it to 15-6 before the Lady Bucs began to rally.  The Lady Bucs scored 14 of the next 20 points to close within a 21-20 margin, but UWF pulled away to win 25-22.

Kaitlin Keathley (Henderson, Nev./Silverado HS) and Lizzie McLean (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) led the Lady Bucs with 11 kills each, while Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) paced the defense with 15 digs.  Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) added 36 assists and three aces.

Lindsay Homme led UWF with 17 kills, and Autumn Duyn added 14.  Anna Stoecklein posted a team-high 14 digs, and Molly Pearce added a team-high 28 assists.

The Lady Bucs return to Canale Arena Saturday at 1 p.m. as they host New Orleans.
