Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs evened their Gulf South Conference record Friday night as they swept host West Georgia in three hard-fought sets.
The Lady Bucs (13-4, 2-2 GSC) jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead and never trailed in the first set, building their lead to 22-14 before the Wolves (5-14, 0-5) scored five straight to make it close. The Lady Bucs held on to win 25-21. In the second set, the Lady Bucs again built a healthy lead, leading 14-6 midway through the set. Again UWG cut into the lead, closing within 22-20 before the Lady Bucs won the set 25-22. UWG seemed to have the upper hand through much of the third set, leading 19-13 before the Lady Bucs scored six straight to tie it. From there, the teams traded points until CBU scored the last three to win 27-25 and claim the match.
Hannah Kurtz (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) led the Lady Bucs with a match-best 13 kills.
Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) added 11 kills to her 12 digs, and
Lizzie McLean (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) tacked on 10 kills.
Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) collected 48 assists, three off the school record for assists in a three-set match set by Lauren Amundson in 2005, and
Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) notched 20 digs.
Mary K Krueger paced UWG with 10 kills. Amanda Miller added 28 assists, and Emily Reul and Melissa Holt added 13 digs each.
The Lady Bucs return to action Saturday at noon as they visit Valdosta State. Their next home match is set for Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Bethel.
