Lady Bucs Split in Regional Crossover

Alexis Gillis had 28 kills across two matches that the Lady Bucs split in the Red Elephant Cafe South Region Crossover Friday.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TAMPA, Fla.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs split a pair of matches in the Red Elephant Cafe South Region Crossover hosted by the University of Tampa Friday, topping Saint Leo in four sets but dropping a three-set match against Eckerd.

In the first match against Saint Leo, the Lady Bucs (13-6) built a quick 9-3 lead and held on to win 25-21 in the first set, but Saint Leo (9-9) tied the match with a 25-13 win in the second set.  In the third set, the Lady Bucs exploded to another 9-3 lead early and won 25-17.  The Lady Bucs dug out of a 5-0 deficit in the fourth set to win 25-19 and claim the match.

Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) led the way with 16 kills and a .565 hitting percentage, while Lizzie McLean (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) had 15 kills and hit .385.  Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) added 10 kills, and Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) picked up 39 assists.  Kristina Headrick (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) led the Lady Bucs with eight digs.

Tawni Warren led the Lions with 15 kills, and Jaclyn Mailoto had a team-best 23 assists.  Molly Alexander collected a match-best 13 digs.

In the later match against Eckerd, the Tritons (13-7) took an early lead with a 25-17 win in the first set, and they won both of the remaining sets 25-20.

Alexis Gillis led the Lady Bucs with 12 kills, and Miles collected 25 assists.  Headrick led the Lady Bucs with nine digs.

Ali McAlvany led the Tritons with 18 kills, 11 digs, and a .517 hitting percentage.  Madisn Burr had 21 assists.

The Lady Bucs continue play in the regional crossover tomorrow, when they face Florida Southern at 12:15.  They wrap up play in the crossover when they take on the hosts, No. 2 Tampa, at 4:45 p.m.
