Box Score 2 TAMPA, Fla.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs swept Florida Southern in three sets Saturday afternoon before dropping a three-set match to No. 2 Tampa in the Red Elephant Cafe South Region Crossover.
In the first match against Florida Southern, the Lady Bucs (14-7) survived a nip-and-tuck first set to win 27-25 despite trailing 6-1 early in the set. In the second set, neither side led by more than three points throughout the set, with 12 ties and four lead changes before the Lady Bucs won 25-23. In the final set, the Lady Bucs took a quick 5-0 lead and never trailed in a 25-19 win to seal the match.
Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) led the Lady Bucs with 14 kills, and
Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) added 11 kills.
Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) logged a match-best 36 assists, and
Kristina Headrick (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) posted a match-best 12 digs.
Dominique Hale led the Mocs (15-9) with nine kills, and Ali Skayhan collected 24 assists. Arielle Fernandez added 10 digs.
In the final match of the crossover, No. 2 Tampa (19-3) hit .577 as a team as they rolled to a 25-11, 25-13, 25-18 win.
Alexis Gillis led the Lady Bucs with 11 kills, and Miles added 16 assists. Headrick collected a team-best eight digs.
Holly Reschke led the host Spartans with 14 kills, and setter Kahley Patrick dished out 27 assists. Frances Cardenas recorded a match-best nine digs.
The Lady Bucs play their next two matches on the road, starting Friday night at 6 p.m. as they visit West Florida. Their next home game is Tuesday, Oct. 30, when they host Union at 7 p.m.
